Our Team Won the First Place of Grand Award and Second Place of Second Award at 2019 Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition

News from News Center (Text and Photos by Deng Qigui and Mo Wenfeng from School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering) Our team won the grand award (first place) of Industrial Internet Contest and the second award (second place) of Reverse Engineering Contest with outstanding performance at the 2019 Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition held in Gu’an, Langfang City, Hebei Province from September 5 to September 9, 2019.

This Competition was jointly convened by BRICS Business Council (BRICS BC), the Organizing Committee for BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition and the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road (LASDBR). It consisted of several events including Sino-Russia Elevator Engineering Technology Invitational Competition, the 7th International Welding Skills Competition, the 3rd International Welding Technology Competition, the 1st International Pipeline Automatic Welding Technology Competition, mechatronics, internet of things, industrial internet, virtual reality (VR/AR) and reverse engineering contests. The goal of the Competition was to build an international cooperation platform for talents in Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation, accelerate the cultivation of skilled talents in the future and joint promote skills across the world. The Competition featured a total of 564 players from 109 teams, among which 108 players were from 10 foreign teams in BRICS countries such as Russia, India and countries along the Belt and Road such as Romania, Indonesia, Iran, Bulgaria, Serbia, Vietnam and Cameroon, and 456 players were respectively from 16 state-owned enterprises, 22 higher/secondary vocational schools, 4 relevant enterprises and social organizations and Hong Kong SAR.

Our team which attended the Industrial Internet Contest of the 2019 Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition was composed of Luo Lizhi with academic advisor Deng Qigui from the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and Huang Peixiao with academic advisor Dong Penglin from the School of Electronic Information Engineering. During the 12-hour intense competition, competitors from our team successfully accomplished the equipment installation and deployment of three modules of industrial internet system application, platform commissioning and configuration and innovative development, including programming and commissioning of industrial PLC and HMI system, field bus commissioning of industrial sensor, intelligent gateway and wireless communication configuration, cloud protocol configuration, embedded development and application of industrial gateway, development and application at PC terminal and visualized application scenarios. Finally, the team won the grand award with first rank and was qualified for the BRICS High Technology Open Competition to be held in Ekaterinburg, Russia during October 30, 2019 to November 2, 2019.

Our team which attended the Reverse Engineering Contest of the 2019 Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition was represented by Wei Qinnan with academic advisor Mo Wenfeng from the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. During the 3-day fierce competition, our competitor overcame many difficulties and accomplished multiple tasks such as three dimensional scanning of parts of six modules + transformed polygonal model, reverse engineering design, data analysis and test, manual measurement of parts + 3D assembly, drawing of production drawing of parts and comprehensive vocational capacity test etc. Finally, our competitor won the second award with second rank and was qualified for the BRICS High Technology Open Competition to be held in Ekaterinburg, Russia during October 30, 2019 to November 2, 2019.

During the competition, the 2019 International Seminar on Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation was also held on September 9, 2019. Governmental commissioners, technological experts, scholars and enterprise executives from BRICS countries such as China, Russia and India and countries along the Belt and Road such as Romania, Indonesia, Iran, Bulgaria, Serbia, Vietnam and Cameroon attended the Seminar. Dr. Liu Zhenying, Leader of Chinese skills development working group of BRICS Business Council, Chairman of Executive Committee of Organizing Committee for BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition and Director General of the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road, researcher Song Tianhu, Supervisor of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and Chief Editor of Journal of Mechanical Engineering, Zha Jianzhong, Chairholder, UNESCO Chair on Cooperation between Education and Industries, Du Kewei, Director General of China Centre for International People-to-People Exchange of the Ministry of Education, Rituraj Bose, Chairman of National Skill Competition – Best Welder, IIW-India, MSC.NGUYEN NGOC HOA, Chairman of Vietnam Welding Society and Deputy Director of Association of Mechanical Engineering on International Cooperation, Savchuk Sergey, Chief Technology Officer of Russian LLC SPK Magistral, Li Shuangtao, Deputy Director of the Steering Committee for Engineering Training and Teaching of the Ministry of Education and Director General of Maker Education Base Alliance and Bi Jieli, Vice Chairman of China Association of Staff and Workers Education and Vocational Training delivered the themed speeches on future technologies, international cooperation, market demand and talent cultivation. In the panel discussion on future skills development, Chen Yongtang, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs and Practical Training Management Office of our college delivered a themed speech of “Cultivation of Skills Talents in the Future” as the sole representative from vocational colleges. In this speech, Mr. Chen introduced our college, main development accomplishments, experience in cultivation of talents for the future, achievement in running school with international orientation and industry-academy cooperation, arousing great interest of and striking a chord among the attendees.
